JAMB plans make-up examinations for 2023
ABUJA -Candidates who failed to take the current Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, or UTME, have been rescheduled, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, or JAMB.
The board declared in a statement on Monday morning that any candidates who were unable to take the 2023 UTME during the allotted time due to circumstances beyond their control would have the exam rescheduled for Saturday, May 6, 2023.
Candidates who fall under these categories primarily include those who (i) were confirmed at their testing locations but were unable to take the exam (ii) were unable to have their biometrics validated and (iii) had data that did not match, according to a statement from JAMB issued by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin.
Remember that JAMB planned for the 2023 UTME to be conducted between Tuesday, April 25, 2023, and Tuesday, May 2, 2023.
It is also significant that the Board had warned Nigerians that it would execute the exercise utilizing certain cutting-edge, creative ways with the intention of fully halting instances of examination breaches. This has mostly been accomplished because the exercise saw the fewest reported occurrences of infractions, but there have also been issues due to human error, which prevented some candidates from taking the exam on the first day.
Despite this, only 80,166 candidates remain out of the 1,586,765 who expressed interest in taking the test, according to the statement.
According to the board, “On the first day of the 2023 UTME, a number of applicants in some centers were unable to sit the test as well as in some centers on following days for a variety of reasons. Although a sizable portion of them had their exams rescheduled and took them, some have not yet done so.
The Board has set Saturday, May 6, 2023, for all categories of applicants who have not yet taken their test, as mentioned below, to do so. This decision was made as part of emergency management decisions made on Sunday, April 31, 2023.
The results of students who have already sat the exam will be made public tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2,2023, according to a statement from JAMB.
However, it stated that candidates who took the test but encountered difficulties without being aware of them would not see their results but rather a notification for a rescheduled exam.
It requested that all test takers check their results by Thursday, May 8,2023, at the latest.
“On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, the Board will announce the results of the candidates who have already taken the examination. The Board had postponed the publication in order to guarantee that all required screening had been completed and that the mean and standard deviation had been determined in a reasonable manner.
“Those who took the exam but encountered difficulties without being aware of them would not see their results when they checked their results on Tuesday, May 2, 2023; instead, they would see a notification for a rescheduled exam.
As a result, it advised everyone who took the test to check their findings by Thursday, May 8, 2023, at the latest.
The following is how JAMB described the group of applicants scheduled to take the test on Saturday:
Unverified candidates (A)
“These are candidates who enrolled for the 2023 UTME without exhibiting any bio-metric issues but whose registration was unable to be verified on the test day.
Under strict monitoring, these candidates will take their exam in Abuja.
Candidates in the Beautiful Beginning CBT Center in Abuja are listed as “B.
The UTME exam has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 6, 2023 for those candidates who were originally scheduled to take it at the Beautiful Beginning CBT Centre in Apo, Abuja, but missed it for any reason.
“All of the applicants who missed the exam will have it rescheduled as a result of the center’s address being entered incorrectly, which caused some students to fail it.
It should be highlighted that the center’s name, Beautiful Beginning CBT Centre, Apo, Abuja, misled the candidates by using “Gwagwalada” rather than “Apo.”The Board has thus rescheduled all applicants who were sent to the center but were unable to take their examination due to the incorrect address or for any other reason, in order to ensure that no candidate misses the examination.
Candidates who were rescheduled to take the exam on Thursday, April 27, 2023, but who were unable to get the notification are listed under “C.”
“Those candidates who were rescheduled to repeat their examination on Thursday, 27th April, 2023, but who received their notification late on Thursday night and as a result missed their examination, will also take the examination with the unverified applicants on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
Some of these candidates were unable to receive the notification because their school still had access to their SIM cards, email addresses, and profile codes, which were used to receive messages.
“The Board is going above and beyond to accommodate this set of candidates, who have also had the exam rescheduled to take place on Saturday, May 6, 2023, despite its previous cautions that its processes are not school-based and would not take responsibility for any such challenge.
D) APPLICANTS IN CENTRES WITH REDUCED CAPACITY
Among the candidates who haven’t taken their exam are those whose testing centers couldn’t handle their full capacity of 250 students and, as a result, had to be batched; some of these centers took 150 candidates rather than the 250 that were allowed to them per session. Some of the remaining candidates in the batch sessions have also had their exams rescheduled and taken them, while others have not yet.
E) CANDIDATES WITH MISMATCHING DATA
For obvious reasons, certain CBT centers had data on some registered candidates that did not match. This was also made possible by the negligence of these candidates, who were unable to use the dual screens provided by the Board to track the progress of their registration.
These candidates were not able to take the test because their mismatched personal information was not corrected in time for them to take the test at the scheduled time.
They will take the test on Saturday, May 6, 2023, and the process of correcting their data is still in progress.
E. RESULTS ARE DISCLAIMED
On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, the Board will announce the results of the candidates who have already taken the exam.
“As a result, all test takers are asked to examine their findings by Thursday, May 8, 2023, at the latest.
“F. PRINTING OF RESCHEDULED EXAMINATION NOTIFICATION SLIP All applicants in the aforementioned categories must print their slips by Thursday, May 4 and May 5, 2023, in order to be aware of the date, time, and location of their examination.
Candidates must print their notification slips by Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the latest, in order to make the necessary preparations for the exam because they will be grouped in a single site within their respective States to take it.
