PDP Has Never Won in the Strong Northern States Since 1999;

As soon as Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999, the PDP emerged as the leading party, controlling 31 of the country’s 36 states as of May 2001. Despite its dominance, the PDP has failed to capture two significant northern states since its founding, and its prospects for doing so in the 2023 election are being examined. But the PDP’s luck has run out, and the formerly dominant political force in Africa is now a divided opposition.

When democracy was restored in Nigeria in 1999, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rose to prominence as the main opposition group. The now-opposition PDP boasted in 2007 that it was the biggest political party in Africa and promised to rule Nigeria for at least 60 years.
